“One of the most beautiful gifts in the world is the gift of encouragement. When someone
encourages you, that person helps you over a threshold you might otherwise never have crossed on your own."
— John O'Donohue

Spiritual direction, or spiritual companionship, is an ageless relationship that is pivotal to sacred tradition and spiritual development. The heart of spiritual direction is the creation of a sacred space between two individuals supporting recognition of the sacredness of soul and connection of the self to all of creation.

It is the process of accompanying others on their unique spiritual journey, engaging them in their search for the Creator, the direction in which all of nature points. The spiritual director aids in helping to discover spiritual giftings, and in the telling of sacred stories. Spiritual direction engages in a genuinely transformational process of personal growth.
Spiritual companionship from the Celtic perspective embraces the ever-present mystery of creation, the first light created as the light that lives at the heart of all of life. It is in the midst of each of us, in the center of each of us, and is, indeed, the essence of all. It is this very light from which all of life proceeds. To discover this light in the midst of life is the journey for all. The spiritual companion walks with another, seeking together after the first light. At the very heart of all that has life is this light; the light of God, the Creator. This is an essential principal of the Celtic tradition.
We are called to reconnect to the first light, both within ourselves and within all of creation.
