Myths are public dreams, dreams are private myths. ~Joseph Campbell

Dreaming is a universal experience. It happens to each of us every night regardless of whether we remember our dreams or not. Dreams have a unique place in our spiritual lives; their purpose is to reveal the expansive truth of the inner life of an individual.

Working with dreams is a dynamic approach to inner work that is in contrast to the purely intellectual technique of interpretation.

Dreams can be compared to letters or messages that we receive each night from the unconscious. They come to tell us hidden things that, when illuminated, aid us in our spiritual development and move us closer to wholeness.

Dreams are primarily about the dreamer. Every aspect of the dream – the characters, the action, the symbols and the relationship among the elements of the dream are aspects of the dreamer. The language of dreams includes metaphors, symbols and images. The story and concepts of the dream are embedded in the imagery.

A dream offers potentially valuable insights to the task of understanding our individual spiritual path. These diverse perceptions appear in the dream as images, which emerge naturally and freely from the unconscious. Using expansion of images, exploring of archetypes, and active imagination, the dreamer is engaged in a dynamic experience of personal growth. At Morning Bridge Center, dreams are explored through individual and group dream work, journaling, creative expression using art materials, and through active imagination such as wakeful dreaming. Susy uses a both Jungian and Gestalt dream models in helping people to understand their dreams. Using Jungian techniques, archetypal symbolism is explored; using Gestalt techniques, dreamers dialogue with the various symbols of the dream.
